Ford Big Block 460 Assembly

Discussing the plan of action and also my hi-tech webcam.

Cleaning parts and getting ready for assembly

Cleaning main cap bolts.

Chasing block threads before assembly.

Crank installation. Main caps torqued to 100 ft lbs. Clearances checked out at .002 using Plastiguage.

Another shot of crank assembly. Is that assembly lube or Crisco Shortening???

I love shiny parts. By the way, Plastiguage can also be used as dental floss.

Edelbrock double roller timing chain and gears.

Timing gears were installed straight up. No advance or retard as instructed by Edelbrock.

Polishing up the Harmonic Balancer.

We submerged the pistons in oil before assembly. We also use the 30wt oil for facials. Gives your skin that youthful glow.

Compressing rings for installation

Shortblock

Another shot of the shortblock

Bottom end has been assembled

Installing one of the pistons.

Installing piston

Heads bolted on and valve train installed

Mark polishing up the accessory pulleys. (First physical work he's ever done in his life...)

Assembled Valve Train

Bypass adapter had to have sealer applied and then pressed in..

The ole beast is starting to come togther. Intake is bolted on.

Intake manifold has now been torqued down.

ARP bolts look sharp with the polished intake.

Oil pump and new pickup installed.

OH MAN! We have no idea where all those go.

Did we build this thing upside down???

Crank pulley after polishing.

Timing cover and water pump installed.

We torqued the intake bolts to 250 Ft. Lbs. That ought to hold her on!

Rear view of intake manifold.

Another shot of the valve train. Stock rockers were used. We might change those at a later date.

Mark opted to polish the new timing cover instead of painting it. Looks cool.

Future home of the performance fuel pump by Summit Racing.

High Performance fuel pump from Summit Racing bolted on and ready to suck down gas!

Chrome water neck from Motorchrome.com installed.

Another shot of the water neck. Bolt holes had to be modified slightly to fit this manifold.

Oil pan installed

Another shot of the oil pan. Supervisor in background.

Chrome oil pan looks sharp against the Dark Ford Blue

Another nice shot of the oil pan.

Engine is nearing completion. Frontal shot.

Main bracket for power steering pump and A/C compressor can be seen.

Side view. We're trying to keep everything functional and simple.

We used Blue silicon vaccum tubing. Pretty reliable stuff.

PCV valve enclosure is from BilletSpecialties.com. They have some pretty cool stuff.

Distributor has been installed and preliminary timing set. Will be getting new wire looms soon. We'll use Blue Ford Racing wires.

This beast will be ozone friendly and get at least 40 feet to the gallon!

Ignition wires installed.

We used Ford Motorsport Racing wires. 9mm baby!

Need to purchase a few more Moroso wire clips to keep the wires organized.

New K&N Pcv breather can be seen.

The K&N filter is one tough joker to get in place. Once in, it's there to stay.

Another shot of the Ford Racing wires.
